Ride Classification Key

  • Social Ride: 10-14 mph average (depending on route), no one is dropped, a very casual ride
  • E: Easy, up to 20 miles, average under 10 mph, not necessarily flat, but close.
  • EM: Moderately easy, up to 50 miles, average under 12 mph, some hills.
  • M: Experienced riders, average 16 mph or less, expect varied terrain with hills.
  • S: Strong riders, no limits, any terrain possible, including mountainous.

Notes:

  • GMBC tours are free and open to all.  Helmets are required.  Most of our rides rides have two leaders: one to lead and a co-leader to sweep.  Please contact the leaders for specific info. on the ride.  We encourage riders to try to carpool to starting points which are far from their homes.

Light, rolling hills with beautiful views by the lake. The 35-mile route goes to St. Albans Bay Park and returns although riders may want to take an additional trip to Kill Kare State Park.  The 50-mile route continues on to Swanton and back.  Both rides can break for food at St. Albans Bay. 9:45 am Georgia Park and Ride

Bound for Bristol Bakery 26 mi (E)

This is a revised version of the old Bound for Bristol ride which avoids the bad pavement heading into town. The longer ride takes low traffic roads from Hinesburg to Bristol,  where a stop at the bakery for sustenance for the return. The shorter ride will go straight to the bakery and back, and those looking for a little extra at the end might want to do an out and back on Hinesburg Hollow Road. 9:15 am

Both rides travels south through Huntington to Hinesburg Hollow.  The 25-mile route returns to Richmond via North Road while the 47-mile route continues through North Ferrisburgh to the Lake and back through Hinesburg.

One of the flattest rides of the season with a food break at the 20-mile mark. The shorter route circles Grand Isle and includes some dirt. The pace will be more casual than the long ride. Riders on that ride can visit St. Anne's Shrine (bathrooms and picnic tables but no food) and also a fossil bed.

NOTE: Unlike other GMBC rides, this one splits between the short and long at the beginning.

Double Ferry South 50 mi (M/S) Taking the Burlington to Port Kent ferry to get to New York.  The hilly terrain on the New York side brings beautiful views of the lake. The second ferry will take us from Essex, N.Y. to Charlotte and we’ll return on flatter terrain back to Burlington. Bring money for the ferries.

NOTE: This is the reverse of the way the ride used to go.  

NOTE: Following the ride there will be a picnic prepared by Sal DeFrancesco at Charlie Auer’s Boathouse starting between 2 and 3 p.m. Riders are encouraged to bring a desert or side dish to share.

Horse Country Ride

All rides start in South Royalton. The short ride will travel north to Chelsea and return; the medium distance  continues up Route 110 to the top of the hill in Washington and back; and the long ride (51 S) goes to Chelsea, up to the Vershire heights, then down into the CT river valley, back through Strafford and Sharon to S. Royalton. There are two country stores in Chelsea, and additional ones in W. Fairlee and Strafford on the long ride

After the ride, cyclists can camp out in South Royalton, stay at an area hotel, or return home. There is a $10 fee for camping, part of which might be refunded. Talk to Pat and Tom to get more info about the camping.

 We’ll head up Howe Hill, then down the lovely Pomfret Road to West Hartford and the White River. After a climb over the hill to Woodstock, we’ll ride along River Road to pick up Route 12. Another climb will bring you into Barnard and a stop at the excellent general store by lovely Silver Lake. North Road provides you with some lovely views to the west, then back 107 to 14 to the Royalton green.

Enjoy a scenic tour through the countryside of Waitsfield and Warren with a visit to Moss Glen Falls.
