The Friends of Northern Lake Champlain together with the Franklin County mountain bike club are putting on a gravel ride in northern Franklin County September 30. The ride will start and end at the Choiniere farm trails, 3550 Gore Rd., Highgate Center. Vermont. There will be a 43 mile and a 17 mile loop. Registration includes lunch, socks, and a rest area. This ride travels 30 miles (M) going from Woodstock through the Pomfret are and Upper Valley areas of Vermont with 3, 556 feet of vertical gain.

The 41-mile route has lots of dirt and very little traffic. It travels on Sherman Hollow, Gilman, State Prison and Big Hollow Roads. There are some falls on State Prison Road. Riders tour through the towns of Richmond, Huntington, Hinesburg, Monkton and Starksboro.

This is a new gravel version of the covered bridges ride. 31 miles (M/S) of rolling hills through Shelburne and Charlotte. Two thirds of the route is unpaved with two sections of farm track and roughly 2.000 ft of elevation gain. Possible food stops include the Old Brick Store in Charlotte (no restrooms). Visit up to four of the five covered bridges in Chittenden County; Shelburne, Holmes, Sequin, and Quinlan.
